Adopt-a-Rescued Rabbit Month
When: Sunday, February 1 to Saturday, February 28,
Where:
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and its online adoption partner, Petfinder.com, are celebrating February as the second annual Adopt-a-Rescued-Rabbit Month. Rabbits are the most popular small mammals kept as pets in American households. Unfortunately, these quiet, affectionate creatures are the third mostly likely animals to be dropped off at the nation's shelters. Tiny bunnies bought as Easter presents or springtime birthday gifts grow up and get cast aside when their novelty wears off. Instead of purchasing a rabbit, the ASPCA encourages Americans to "Make Pet Adoption Your First Option." For more information, please visit American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Petfinder Adopt-a-Rescued-Rabbit Month, or call 212-876-7700.

SPAY Day USA
When: Thursday, February 26,
Where:
HAPPY SPAY DAY, ANIMAL ADVOCATES! Please join the Humane Society of the United States to help end the euthanasia of our nation's pets by participating in Spay Day USA 2008! Once again, Pets911.com is helping to promote Spay Day USA, a program offered by the Humane Society of the United States. The 14th Annual Spay Day USA takes place on Tuesday, February 26, 2008; however, events and activities take place throughout the month of February. During Spay Day USA's first 13 years, participants spayed or neutered an estimated 1,387,000 animals!! When you consider that an unspayed cat can give birth to 18 kittens each year and an unspayed dog can give birth to 20 puppies each year, it is clear that Spay Day USA participants have potentially prevented millions of surplus births. Together we can prevent euthanasia by preventing surplus births. To register, get more information, or to download your action kit, please visit Spay Day USA 2009.

Every Day is Tag Day!
When: Sunday, April 5,
Where:
Without a voice, and without a tag, he may never find his way home. April 1, 2006, kicked off American Humane's "Every Day is Tag Day." The American Humane Association leads this nationwide campaign to encourage all pet owners to microchip or tag their companion animals. This annual effort helps give animals a voice to find their way home. According to a study of 1,000 animal shelters, conducted by the National Council on Pet Population Study and Policy, approximately 1 million dogs and 584,000 cats were taken in as strays. Unfortunately for both owners and animals, only 16% of the dogs and 2% of the cats were returned to their owners. These statistics are alarming. By celebrating Every Day is Tag Day, we can help combat these statistics. Every Day is Tag Day unites thousands of individuals, plus professionals in local shelters, veterinary clinics, animal care and control agencies, and other humane agencies, in the common goal of educating pet owners about the benefits of tagging their companion animals. Identification is your pet's ticket home! For more information, please visit Every Day is Tag Day - American Humane.
