Imagine a shelter staff where everyone knows how to properly sanitize cages and kennels, deals well with the public -- even on the phone -- can identify sick animals, and conscientiously works to prevent disease transmission. If you're ready to have staff performing at its fullest potential, you should enroll your employees now in this new training aimed at the backbone of every organization -- the shelter staff. Tuition: $220 ($187 for members). Includes lectures and participatory activities, and a certificate of completion. Register at American Humane. Go to “Protecting Animals,” “Conferences and Training” and then “Animal Welfare Trainings.” Scholarships are available for this class.

Finally -- a class about the business of managing a shelter! An average day in an animal shelter is about crisis management. Whether it's a broken power sprayer or an outbreak of disease in the kennel or a public relations issue, it is a challenge for the most competent manager to get back to the basics of shelter management. This class is designed to provide Shelter Managers with tools that will help them develop a solid, well-managed foundation for their shelter operations. We recommend the Shelter Operations School as a prerequisite. Tuition: $220 ($187 for members). Includes lectures and participatory activities, and a certificate of completion. Register at American Humane. Go to “Protecting Animals,” “Conferences and Training” and then “Animal Welfare Trainings.” Scholarships are available for this class.

October 2010
Adopt-a-Dog Month When: Friday, October 1 to Sunday, October 31, Where:
October is American Humane's Adopt-A-Dog Month and the hugely popular Clifford The Big Red Dog has signed on as official “spokesdog” for the monthlong celebration. Clifford is featured on American Humane’s Adopt-A-Dog Month posters and other materials that have been distributed to more than 6,000 shelters nationwide. Millions of dogs are euthanized every year across the country because there are not enough loving homes. This is why American Humane’s Adopt-A-Dog Month was established. Celebrated every October, the tradition promotes dog adoptions from shelters and provides an opportunity to teach the public how to care for their pets responsibly. Improve your life with a dog’s companionship, and support these voiceless creatures. For more information, please visit Adopt-A-Dog Month - American Humane.
